Scientific Research : BOINC Distributed Computing Project Proposals

  1. Deep Space Network @ Home (Recovers Voyager Program mission & New Horizons mission telemetry) -- an important "add on" the the currently existing Deep Space telemetry reception systems.
  2. Cross Project Multiplier Proposal, a method of rewarding participation in more than one BOINC project. This proposal only applies to BOINC Account Managers (essentially websites that communicate with BOINC clients via the Account Manager API). This idea may (or may not) be embeddable in the overall BOINC design.
  3. On hold due to global finance system crisis : Error Correction (Codes) @ Home (Monte Carlo Error Correction kernel & toolkit / research suite).
  4. "US" Hyperinflation Predictor @ Home (to predict hyperinflation risk in an economy).
  5. Computational Climate Prediction / Fluid Dynamics / Cryptography coprocessor for distributed computing (PDF), a current ongoing research project in need of financial support.
  6. Computational Climate Prediction "Resolution Independent Trickle Data Interface for Distributed Computing".

Scientific Research : Broadcasting, Telemetry and Internet

  1. DVB-T2W : A wideband DVB transmission system for Australia, Canada and NZ.
  2. Fractal antennas are needed for reliable ASTC 8VSB DTV reception.
  3. HVAC distribution failure caused by geomagnetic storms can be totally avoided by using voltage division and current division principals in the form of a redundant array of AC transformers.
  4. Distributed Time Service with Advanced Features (needs to be Wikified to optimize design).
  5. Proposal for improvements to the existing NTP networks in Australia, Canada and NZ.
  6. On the art & science of audio compression: recommended bit rates for MPEG, MP3, Ogg & AAC encoding.
  7. A Low Complexity Fix for MD5 family of cryptographic hash functions, "Backward + Forward MD5" (Complete except for the XOR sums!) -- needs clarification to become implementable.
  8. FTP-NG "FTP Next Generation" (Wikification needed) : Adds resilient download and upload functionality to FTP based on protocol concepts and data structures borrowed from BitTorrent.
  9. The spreadsheet wiki (the OpenOffice spreadsheet forced this technology into being): Sometimes it takes hundreds of people working together on a spreadsheet to make possible transparent global finance system analysis that otherwise could not be done. National debt clocks and corporate bond rating companies need to revisit their reason for being. This technology needs to become widely implemented so as to keep the global finance system properly functioning.
  10. For the consumer: Known HDTV Set Top Box decoder defects. Read this before you consider buying these sub-par products in North America, or Australia and NZ.
  11. Barcodes need to be decoded (and encoded) by an open source middleware system that implements processing pipeline that has some similarities to the BOINC client middleware system. This barcode system service must be free of any and all intellectual property, not by the ad-hoc set of decoders now implemented.
  12. A <barcode> tag proposal for HTML / XML / SVG or MathML.
  13. CCSDS Concept Paper : Future Spacecraft Systems Designs Optimized for Neptune or Uranus or Interstellar Missions of Generational Duration.
  14. A BitTorrent Private Tracker Client "Accounting Error Message" Protocol Alert.
